Flying

Räyskälä is famous for its plain terrain, with forests, lakes and fields, long days in the summer time and good thermal conditions. There are no tricks in flying in Räyskälä. Räyskälä has four paved runways with associated taxiways. There is ample room for landings and adequate parking facilities for gliders. The airfield is also the base of the Finnish Sports Flying Institute.

Licenses

The Civil Aviation Authority in Finland accepts all valid European licenses. No additional validation in Finland is needed.

Other activities

The nature is in big role. There are walking and cycling paths in the forest, or you can enjoy swimming, rowing, fishing and canoeing in some of the several lakes which are located just walking distance from the airfield.

Also there is scuba diving spot at Iso-Melkutin. During autumn you can pick mushrooms and berries, best places are especially ”behind the village shop”. 

The camping area and the facilities

The camping area nearby motel is very popular, caravans, camper vans and tents are welcome. Electricity is available.

Toilets, saunas and showers

Toilets are situated in the motel and in the other end of Big Sauna building, showers are located there as well. Most of the motel rooms have toilets and showers en suite.

There are two saunas close to the motel, beside the lake. Check the bathing times from the homepage.

Cooking and dish washing facilities

Separate bigger fridge for common use is available in the motel hall.

Small kitchen for cooking is in the Small Classroom (old part of motel) there are plenty of seating available, 2 stoves, other one with oven, sinks, microwave ovens, kettle and coffee maker available, with pots, pans and basic kitchen accessories for common use.

New small kitchen is located at the Big Sauna building by the entrance to sauna. Kitchen has a table with 4 chairs, induction stove with oven, and two large sinks for washing the dishes. Please use your own cooking ware, none of them is available in this kitchen.

Large dishwashing place is situated outside by the Big Sauna building, close to the toilet facilities.

Laundry

Washing machines are in Big Sauna building kitchen. Bring your own laundry detergent.

Drinking water

Tap water is good drinking water in Finland. Drinking water is available also taps around camping area, which is the best tasting drinking water in Räyskälä.

NOTICE! Water supply by the hangar and airfield area is lake water, it is meant for water ballast and cleaning the gliders, but not suitable for drinking!

TV

We have one TV for common use in the motel Big classroom.
In Finland we have more than 10 free tv-channels. Programs are mostly in Finnish or English, some of programmes are in Spanish or Swedish. Programs and movies are always in their original language, with Finnish subtitles. Most popular international shows are available too. Summer is usually time for re-runs.

Barbecue

Usually most of the people spend their evenings around barbecues, making some dinner and flying again day’s flights. Behind the motel is situated big barbecue building for common use.

Wifi, Internet Connection

Wifi network is available at café, around hangars and close to the motel.

Restaurant

Airfiel restaurant is open daily during summertime. Breakfast, lunch from buffet on weekdays, a la carte (pizzas, hamburgers, steaks, pastas, salads and snacks). More info at Ravintola Huhkajalampi facebook If the evening is beautiful, you can always find someone sitting at the café back terrace spending time and enjoying the sunshine.

Nearest Towns and railway station

Nearest food shop to meet your everyday needs is a small shop in Räyskälä village, 0,5 km. Loppi centre (distance ~25 km), has few grocery shops,  barber shops, post office, pharmacy and a few small restaurants, there is also nearest liquor shop ”Alko”. Other small town Tammela is also about 25 km to west. 10 more kilometers from Tammela is Forssa.

The nearest railway station is at Riihimäki, 45 km. The nearest bigger towns to go shopping or to find entertainment are Forssa, 35 km and Hämeenlinna, 40 km.

Shops, opening hours in Finland

Food shops and bigger shops are open daily, opening hours vary, but on weekdays shops usually open between 8 and 10, and closing 21.00 the latest. Smaller shops are closing at 18.00. On sundays bigger shops are open 12-21 or 12-18. Small shops like Räyskälä villages shop usually have their own opening hours. Opening hours can be found from internet.

Liquor shop Alko closes its doors on weekdays 18.00 or 20.00 and is always closed on Sundays and on most public holidays.

Mobile Phones

You can buy prepaid SIM cards at all R-Kioski and some grocery shops, several kind of prepaid plans are available. Top-up vouchers can be also bought at R-Kioski or directly from the supplier’s website.

Credit cards

The most common credit cards are Visa and MasterCard. American Express is not widely used. Nearest bank and cash dispenser are in Loppi centre.
