Kesän 2010 aikana Räyskälän "vakihinaajana" toimi kanadalainen Zach Marton.
During summer 2010 we could enjoy the towing services of Zach Marton from Canada

Zach Marton

I'm Zach Marton, coming from Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. Hamilton, my hometown of 500,000 people is located only an hour away from Toronto to the east as well as Buffalo, New York in the U.S.A to the south. Relatively it is quite southern compared to Finland. In latitude it is compared to southern France. The majority of the Canadians live this far south, as such the weather is a little different, slightly warmer and daylight changes aren't so drastic.

Coming from Canada, I've been intrigued in aviation for almost a decade. The spark came from my mother's job with a local airline, West Jet, working at Hamilton's Airport. Since then I've been pushing farther and farther into the aviation world. In 2007 I became a member of a local gliding club, York Soaring Association. York is the largest gliding center in Canada with average over 3000 launches a year. Here is where I learned to fly my first glider, the Schewizer 2-33. Since then I obtained my Private Pilot Licence in the summer of 2008 in Oshawa, Ontario at the Durham Flight Centre. I learned on the Cessna 150.

By last summer, I had already worked for the local flight school, and had gained some tail-wheel time on a Champion 7EC, so I decided to tow for York Soaring with their Super Cub and Pawnee. I also gained my glider instructor rating, and earned some hours taking friends and passengers in the club Grob 103s. At the end of the season, I went to a wave camp at Sugar Bush Soaring in Vermont, U.S.A.  For the fall time, as I was not in high school anymore, I determined I wanted to continue flying. With this in mind I applied at Sport Aviation Tocumwal to be their tow pilot for the season. Eddie Madden and his crew took me in with open arms, and introduced me to Australia and the lifestyle in Tocumwal, New South Wales. Tocumwal is a wonderful place to fly, and I've learned quite a bit towing with the Maule M5 and EuroFox ultralight. Here I also completed my Gold badge and Diamond Goal flights.

While in Australia I met a customer, Kari Lappalainen. After towing Kari in an LS-6 for a few weeks, he asked if I would like to tow at his home airfield in Finland. Although I thought it was quite outrageous, as I don't speak Finnish, I somehow agreed. After some negotiations, I ended up here in Räyskälä, flying the Piper Pawnee. I look forward to flying in the Jannen Kisat as my first competition as well as a local Grand Prix this summer. I also hope for more flying and of course more good weather. After 2 years of flying, I've just celebrated my 2000th Landing and 500th hour with an engine.

I look forward to my next adventure, where ever it ends up. I am applying in many places including Argentina, Africa, Australia and New Zealand. To be quite honest, I really am hoping to fly in New Zealand, for their upcoming summer. I will always be looking skyward, no matter what the day. I feel that I will end up flying for the rest of my life, as often as possible. Every airplane is a different adventure, as well as every day, new weather and new airports. I don't have a favourite airplane, but prefer instead anything that can get me off the ground. To prove that, I've recently took up skydiving at the local club. It makes for rather short flights, but still completes my passion for flight.

And as I'm only 19, I've got some time to continue this flying adventure. Lets see where my wings take me next.
